Indian choreographer Sandeep Soparrkar - Britney Spears says no dating

Indian choreographer Sandeep Soparrkar - Britney Spears says no dating
Ace Indian choreographer Sandeep Soparrkar wants to once and for all put to rest rumours about his alleged affair with Britney Spears and says he is too much in love with his partner Jesse Randhawa to even think of dating the American pop star.

"I don't want to talk much about it as I am already in the news for the wrong reasons, but I want to make one thing clear that I am not dating Britney Spears," Soparrkar said.

Just a few months ago, the international media was abuzz with the news that Spears is dating Soparrkar. Media reports had said that the two met at Madonna's party, hit it off immediately and later Spears came to India to spend time with him.

"I am very much in love with my partner Jesse Randhawa. I enjoy dancing with her. Whenever I dance with her, it gives me a feeling of closeness and pleasure," he added.

Soparrkar specialises in Latin American ballroom dancing and says the attitude of Indians towards this dance form is changing and people are now taking it seriously.

"People are becoming aware about treating dance as a career option and those who are serious know how to go about it. Dance is not a hobby any more and many study dance as their subject," he said.

"The most important thing is to understand and learn dance; only then can you excel in classes. There are people who are born with some dancing skills, but it is something that can be learnt over a period of years," he added.

While many have taken to learning western dances like salsa, Latino, rumba and cha-cha-cha, Soparrkar feels that the popularity of Bollywood dances overshadow these elegant dance forms.

"Bollywood dancing is the weirdest dance form and it can be learnt as a hobby. All those moves look good on screen and they are fun. Bollywood has a major influence on our everyday life and people love to imitate the moves of a popular song, but it isn't a serious dance form," the dancer said.

While Bollywood actors like Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapur have become a rage for their dancing skills, Soparrkar's personal favourite is Govinda, who according to him is a carefree and energetic dancer.

"He dances so beautifully and his effortless moves and great expressions make him a treat to watch. He dances from the heart and you can see the pleasure dancing gives him," he said.

Although he finds Bollywood dance weird, Soparrkar will be choreographing for three movies - Raftar 24x7, Cyclone and Phir Kabhi, which features Dimple Kapadia and Mithun Chakraborty.

"I'm not going to follow the Bollywood style. It will be a completely different form of dancing," he said.

Soparrkar made his debut on the small screen last year with music reality show Chak De Shehar Di Kudiyan Te Galli De Gunde. This year too the salsa expert is one of the judges on new reality TV series CBF Stunner 10 on UTV Bindaas.

The show, aired every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., aims to spread awareness about safe biking amongst youngsters.

"The competition takes care of your overall personality and it is not just a show. It is a platform that prepares young aspirants to achieve their goal. We are just a guiding factor to help teach them basic things that will help them in the long run," Soparrkar said.

Bollywood Actress Sonam Kapoor says that she is no underdog

Sonam Kapoor is unperturbed and says she is no underdog
Her 2007 debut vehicle Saawariya sank without a trace at the box office, but one-film old Sonam Kapoor is unperturbed and says she is no underdog.

"I did my first film with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and my second film Delhi-6 is with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. These are big names and I am on top of the world. I am not at all an underdog. I am Anil Kapoor's daughter. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth,” Sonam told reporters here Friday.

Sonam was speaking at a press conference for the 54th Idea Filmfare Awards 2008. She was here to promote her forthcoming film Delhi-6, releasing next month.

Sonam maintained that though Saawariya, which was released in 2007, failed to click at the box office, it brought her critical acclaim and she “got whatever she needed from the film”.

The 23-year-old actress stressed that she is very much in the league of young actors like her Saawariya co-star Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, who debuted same year with hit movie Om Shanti Om.

In fact, Deepika walked away with the Filmfare award for best female debut last year.
Sonam Kapoor is unperturbed and says she is no underdog“Awards are important and it was important for me to win one for Saawariya. I was quite upset that I didn't get the award,” she said.

Sonam, who has recently signed a comic caper Come On Pappu with Akshay Kumar, finds comparison with Deepika unfair.

“I can't compare myself with Deepika. She is doing mostly commercial roles and I am not. She is signing more films, but I want to do one film at a time. It takes nearly a year for a film to be made and that's why I am being seen lesser than her,” said Sonam.

Deepika Padukone was so busy with the premieres of Chandni Chowk To China

Deepika Padukone was so busy with the premieres of Chandni Chowk To China

Deepika Padukone was so busy with the premieres of Chandni Chowk To China that she had to miss her sister Anisha's golf tournament in Pune.

"Yes Anisha, who is five years younger to me and the baby of the family, was playing in Pune just when I left for my premieres. I'd have definitely liked to watch her," said Deepika.

"But then maybe having family around to watch her play would make her self-conscious. She needs to find her own identity away from the family cocoon and for that we need to leave her along to swim in the waters and face the storms. So in a way it was good that I wasn't around when she played," she added.

Deepika travelled all across the US, Toronto and London for the premieres all alone.

"Why do you say that?" she said. "I had the Chandni Chowk To China team with me. We were hopping from city to city. The only sleep I got was on flight," she said.

"Both me and my sister have been taught to be self-dependent. I am 23 and very proud of it. I'm young and raring to go. Age has nothing to do with maturity. I started travelling alone at a very young age (12) as a badminton player. That made me feel responsible from a very young age.

"I learnt to travel in a team, share dormitories and bathrooms. You could say I've roughed it out. My parents made sure my sister and I were brought up with normal working-class values," said Deepika.

Deepika Padukone was so busy with the premieres of Chandni Chowk To China

The actress turned 23 on January 5, but says says she isn't into celebrations.

"I've never been the partying type. I'm not much into celebrations ever since I moved to Mumbai to become an actress. I don't have any friends to call over. Earlier, when I was in Bangalore, I used to call all my friends over for my birthday over and then take them bowling or to watch a movie…

"Now all my free days are spent with my family. My entire family comes down from Bangalore to Mumbai for my birthday every year. It becomes a family reunion time. They came to visit me around my birthday. My dad, mom and sister were here. We also paid a visit to Tirupati for my birthday this year."

Slumdog Millionaire scores 10 nominations for Oscars Awards

Slumdog Millionaire scores 10 nominations for Oscars Awards

The romantic fantasy The Curious Case of Benjamin Button led Academy Awards contenders on Thursday with 13 nominations, among them best picture and acting honors for Brad Pitt and Taraji P. Henson, and a directing slot for David Fincher.

Other best-picture nominees are Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader and Slumdog Millionaire, with 10 nominations.

As expected, Heath Ledger had a supporting-actor nomination for The Dark Knight on the one-year anniversary of his death from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. But the Batman blockbuster was shut out for other top categories such as best picture and director.

Slumdog Millionaire lived up to its rags-to-riches theme, coming in second with 10 nominations, including a directing spot for Danny Boyle and two of the three song slots.

Real-life couple Pitt and Angelina Jolie both will be going to the Oscars as nominees. Jolie had a best-actress nomination for the missing-child drama Changeling.

The acting categories were loaded with surprises. Kate Winslet won two Golden Globes, best dramatic actress for Revolutionary Road and supporting actress for The Reader. But she was nominated for lead actress at the Oscars for The Reader and shut out for Revolutionary Road.

Actors considered longshots also sneaked in, among lead-actor nominee Richard Jenkins for The Visitor, best-actress contender Melissa Leo for Frozen River and supporting-actor pick Michael Shannon for Revolutionary Road.

Winslet reunited with her Titanic co-star Leonardo DiCaprio for Revolutionary Road, but he also was shut out for a nomination on that film.

Other best-actress nominees were Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married and Meryl Streep for Doubt.

Joining Pitt and Jenkins in the best-actor category were Frank Langella, Frost/Nixon; Sean Penn, Milk; and Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler.

Other acting snubs included Clint Eastwood for Gran Torino, Sally Hawkins for Happy-Go-Lucky and Kristin Scott Thomas for I've Loved You So Long.

But perhaps the biggest surprise overall was the so-so results for The Dark Knight, which had been picking up momentum as one Hollywood trade guild after another picked it as one of the year's best films.

The largest blockbuster in years, The Dark Knight had eight nominations, but other than Ledger's honour, its scored only in technical categories such as cinematography, visual effects and editing.

Bollywood "Ghajini" - SouthIndian Actress Asin Interview

Bollywood Ghajini - SouthIndian Actress Asin Interview

Ritesh Sharma, TWF, Bollywood Trade News Network

She can call herself lucky but even that will be an understatement. For actress Asin it was a dream come true making her Bollywood debut opposite Aamir Khan in GHAJINI. And it seems her dream run continues, as she will be next seen opposite Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in Vipul Shah's LONDON DREAMS. With two big projects to start off, Asin is today enjoying life and Bollywood. The actress speaks to our Correspondent, about life after GHAJINI, her next project LONDON DREAMS and more

You had a great start to your career indeed. How are you feeling right now?

It's simply great. I can't explain it. (Smiles) It's fabulous, fantastic and I feel at the top of the world. The way the entire industry has accepted me and has appreciated my work in GHAJINI is really very encouraging.

Not many are fortunate to get such good debut and that too opposite Aamir Khan.

Yes, I am really fortunate. I am glad that everyone besides appreciating my performance has enjoyed the movie also. And I am happy that I got to start my career opposite Aamir Khan. It is really great working with him and the best part is you learn a lot working with him.

Are the feelings similar... given that you are already a star in the South and now Bollywood is again a new place now?

The reception has been almost similar though Bollywood is a national platform so it has much more thrills and the picture gets bigger here. I am more thrilled because I have been able to be part of a good film twice. The film was a hit in south and I really enjoyed playing the role of Kalpana but I never thought I would be part of this film again.

So how did the offer come in?

Aamir watched the film and called me up to say that I have done a good job. I never realized that he was planning to remake it and one day it happened so. I got another call and I was on. (Smiles)

That sounds great but you have another film too, LONDON DREAMS.

Oh yes and that is what I am looking forward to now. I am shooting for it and I hope that film too gets equally good response from the audiences.

When you thought of doing GHAJINI did the language pose a problem?

No, never...really. I am absolutely comfortable with my Hindi and that was never an obstruction while doing GHAJINI in Hindi. You can make that out from the film itself now that it has released. The entire film has been shot in sync sound. You know how particular Aamir is about these things... so you can make out how good is my Hindi. (Laughs)

Besides director AR Murugadoss, you are the only common link between the two GHAJINIS...

Bollywood Ghajini - SouthIndian Actress Asin Interview

And I am really happy being that. Actually I have known Murugadoss for a long time, have worked with him and we know each other's style of working, so we share a different comfort level working together.

Did you try and improvise while playing the role of Kalpana this time?

Not really because I knew people would love to watch Kalpana the way it was in the original GHAJINI. The character was loved by all; hence I didn't do anything intentionally. But maybe subconsciously there might have been some improvisations.

So what are your plans now? Do you plan to go back to the south and continue working there?

Nothing is planned as of now. But it's not that I am here for one or two films. I am here to stay to do more films because I am enjoying it a lot. For the time being I have made Mumbai my base and moreover I am already doing LONDON DREAMS ...so not any soon...

Okay so how is it working with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan?

It's tremendous fun. Both are very talented, at the same time professional. We have a lot of fun on the sets.

    And what's the film about?

It's going to be a great film. It's being made on a grand scale and has a great story to tell. The film revolves around the life to three people Ajay, Salman and myself who are the members of a band called LONDON DREAMS. There's comedy romance, drama...everything.

So who are you romancing in this film?

Ha....ha...I'm not going to tell that. Actually I am not supposed to because it will take away the story of the film. But I must say that this film's going to be equally good. Wait till August.

Better chance in Hindi films - kollywood actress Padmapriya

Asin might be the new pin up girl in North to make it to the top from Kollywood, but actress Padmapriya thinks she has a better chance in Hindi films than the rest!

If it sounds presumptuous, ask the actress! “Yes, I’m already doing a Hindi film and am looking for greener pastures in Bollywood. What’s wrong in aiming high?” she reasons, adding that she has an added advantage over other actresses, aspiring to make a mark in both there.

“I’ve done both offbeat and commercial films here. I can carry both roles well. There’s scope for both roles out there. And there’s greater name and fame in Bollywood. Why not aim high,” the actress questions.

Bollywood Famous Hot and Sexy Actress Deepika Padukone interview

    Bollywood Trade News Network

You have a phenomenon 2009 ahead of you and life seems too good to be true. But did you have any resolutions this New Year's eve?

    A. No resolutions really, every year I hope that the following year is as exciting as the previous year and I am very happy with the way my professional life is going and I just hope that this year is the same for me. I always hope that I remain happy because I think happiness is very important.

You celebrated your birthday some days ago. And if reports are anything to go by, you visited a temple in Mumbai. Did you party at all?

No, partying is not my thing, I preferred spending time with my family and yes I did visit a temple in the morning, that's generally how I start my day on my birthday and generally do things that I enjoy doing, so I spent time with my family and also worked a bit, so I managed to balance out both.

    Any birth-day wishes?

Well...what better way to start the year with a big film? My film CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is going to release soon, so I hope that it does really well.

CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA was your first action movie. Was it tough to film?

Yes, it was tough, but I am glad that I went through the extensive training - physically and mentally it was important. So I was well prepared.

What training did you undertake prior to filming?

I trained for six-eight months. My trainers came down from Hong Kong and trained me in all the cable work and wire work and all the sword fights and all those things.

The trailers of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA seems very promising. What made you choose this venture?

This project was offered to me before OM SHANTI OM released. And the fact that I was always very keen to do an action film and the fact that is sounded like a very big and exciting project , the fact that Nikhil Advani was directing it and it was opposite Akshay Kumar and the fact that I have a double role, so what more could I have asked for?

You are playing a double role once again. (After OSO). Do you think opting for double roles gives you more scope to exercise your acting prowess?

I would have considered myself very lucky to have got to do the opportunity of a double role again. It just gives me that much more confidence that my directors and the audience believe that I can carry off different kinds of looks in different kinds of roles. And obviously as an actor it is a lot more challenging doing two roles in the same film. It's definitely not easy and is quite challenging.

You look phenomenal yielding all the sticks, the magical umbrellas ... How difficult was it to pull off all the stunts?

It was quite difficult because I had to train for about six-eight months; I used to train for about eight hours a day. But I think it's all paid off, it was something that I had to do because of the kind of action that was required in the film. And my trainers came down from Honk Kong to train me for the action sequences in the film. I think it has really all paid off very well. The action sequences were all ready before we even started shooting for the film. Once we started shooting everything was all in place and I didn't waste any time learning.

Do you always identify with the roles that you take up on screen? And more importantly, will we see you in a non-glamorous avatar any time soon?

Sure, as an actor I would definitely like to do different kinds of roles and different kinds of cinema.

Can you tell us about some interesting anecdotes while shooting for the CC2C?

For me the most interesting part would be shooting at the "Great Wall Of China." I had always thought that I would end up there as a tourist, but it was a greater experience actually shooting there, and I think with the first film to have ever been shot at the Great Wall Of China.

How was it working with Akshay Kumar? (We hear that you were in awe and a bit intimidated while performing stunts alongside him). How do you rate his stunt quotient?

I wouldn't say intimidated because then that would be taking away credit from him. He's some one who has made me feel extremely comfortable, whether it was on the sets, whether it was scene or whether it was an action stunt. He's made me feel absolutely comfortable and also I give my director credit for that and I would also give myself a little bit of credit for that because I had trained really hard for it. No, I wasn't intimidated. I am just some one who really admires the way he's groomed himself over the years and the way he has evolved as an actor and the kind of cinema that he's doing, I think he's some one who we can all really learn a lot from.

You are considered to be one of the most beautiful/promising faces to hit Bollywood in a long time? Do all the sky-high expectations bog you down?

No, it doesn't. I am here to enjoy my work. I think enjoying my work is extremely important and that's the reason I am here.

    Who is your worst critic?

I think myself and my family. I think my family would be most honest with me.

When you see yourself on screen, do you cringe or do you analyze it to pieces?

I do a little bit of both.

How would you best describe Deepika Padukone-the person and the Deepika Padukone - the celebrity?

I don't consider myself a celebrity, I believe that I've had a fantastic up bringing and I believe my parents have kept me really grounded and rooted and my family keeps me rooted. And I hope that success never gets to me. I've seen my father handle success really well and I hope I continue in the same way because I believe that fame and money, all of that are all secondary things. The main thing is to enjoy your work.

With the economic downturn, do you think it's feasible to plan magnum opuses? As an actor, how do you plan to tackle the downturn?

I'll tackle it when I have to; I haven't really faced the situation yet.

You seem to be very picky about choosing roles? Do you consult anybody from the film fraternity before signing on a venture?

Obviously the final decision is mine, but I do have my parents who I always consult before I do a film and I take their advice.

Will we ever see you in a Hollywood venture?

If some thing exciting comes up, why not?

How do you de-stress after a day's hard work and what' the mantra that keeps you going?

I enjoy doing simple things. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, eating simple home food

Tell us something that nobody else knows about Deepika Padukone - the actress

Nothing in particular. I like to believe that I am a very simple person. I like doing simple things, I like spending time at home with my family and friends. And I am extremely fond of chocolate.

Does it rile you up about your personal life being discussed till the cows come home? Are you on/off with Ranbir, are you on/off with XXX, what is your take?

All I can say at this point is that I know it's a part of your profession to be written about your personal life and people are going to keep speculating which is fine as long as I know what is happening in my life and I am very secured and happy in my relationship.

You famously criticized the media for publishing stories about your romantic link-ups. Has this affected your private life and how you conduct interviews?

To me it really doesn't matter; I understand that it's the job of the media to get as much as they can. I understand that it's also a part of the profession that I am in. I know that people appreciate my work and that's the most important thing. I really don't react to these kinds of things when they are written.

How does it feel to be a part of Imtiaz Ali's next venture Production No 1? Were you aware of the tug of war between Saif Ali Khan and the director over who should be cast?

That's really none of my business and decision. I think if Imtiaz has approached me for a film and if he thinks I fit the role then... It was offered to me and obviously I agreed to do it. It's a great script and a great role and I think certain roles are written with certain people in mind. So that's really the director's decision. I am no one to really comment on that.

What are your hopes for 2009?

I hope that my films that release do really well.
